Tany ("the app," "we," "us") is a space-tracking and education app for students, built by Tandelion Technologies. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and who it's shared with. We wrote this to reflect exactly what the app actually does — not a generic template.

Who this app is for

Tany is designed for use by school-age children, typically in a classroom setting under a teacher's supervision. If you are a parent or teacher and have questions about a specific student's data, contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.

Information we collect

1. Account information

• Email address — used only to sign in via a one-time passcode. We never collect or require a password.

2. Explorer profile (optional, student-controlled)

• Nickname — a name the student chooses. We never ask for or store a real full name.
• School and country — entered by the student, used to show which schools/countries are building and launching rockets on the community leaderboard.

Nickname, school, and country are the only information ever shown to other users of the app (e.g. on the leaderboard, or as "Built by ___" on a launched satellite). Your email address is never shown to other users.

3. Location

If you grant permission, the app uses your device's location only to show a marker on the 3D globe indicating roughly where you are. This location data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers or any third party.

4. Rocket & satellite builder data

Names, colors, and mission types you choose while building a rocket or satellite are stored so your creation can join the launch queue and appear in the app once launched.

5. "Ask Tany" chat

Questions you type to Tany, the app's AI companion, are sent to our server and then to a third-party AI provider (xAI, maker of Grok) to generate a response. We do not store a transcript of your conversations on our servers beyond what's needed to process each request. Tany is restricted to space and science topics, and is instructed not to discuss unrelated or inappropriate topics, or complete homework assignments on a student's behalf.

6. Push notifications (optional)

If enabled, we use a device token to send optional notifications (e.g. a daily orbital briefing). You can turn this off at any time in the app's Settings.

7. What we do not collect

• We do not use advertising or third-party analytics/tracking SDKs of any kind.
• We do not collect a student's real name, date of birth, precise home address, or photos.
• We do not sell personal information to anyone, ever.

Who we share information with

• Supabase — our backend database and authentication provider, which stores account and profile data securely.
• xAI (Grok) — processes the text of "Ask Tany" questions to generate a response, as described above.
• Apple — processes any in-app purchase directly; we never see or store payment information.
• CelesTrak — a public, non-profit satellite-tracking data source we query for orbital data. No personal information is sent to CelesTrak.

We do not share personal information with advertisers or data brokers.

Children's privacy

We are mindful that Tany is used by children. We deliberately minimize what we collect (see above), never require a real name, never show a student's email to anyone, and don't run ads or tracking. If you are a parent or teacher and want to review, correct, or delete a student's information, contact us below and we will act promptly.

Data retention & deletion

Account and profile data is retained while your account is active. To request deletion of your account and associated data, contact us using the details below.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
